Explore Possibilities, Dream Big, Aim High

Studies show that youth from underserved communities often face significant barriers to accessing STEM education and career exposure. These barriers include a lack of resources in schools, limited access to mentors and professionals in STEM fields, and fewer opportunities to participate in STEM-related extracurricular activities.

Young STEAMers’ Career compass program transcends textbooks and classrooms, offering students opportunities to connect with real-world possibilities. By engaging with professionals in STEM fields, students gain exposure to various career paths and practical applications of their learning. They also learn about education pathways and internship possibilities so that they can better envision the steps they can take to achieve different STEM careers. By fostering connections with professionals and organizations in STEM, the program empowers students to see themselves as part of the STEM community and equips them with tools to pursue meaningful careers.

Program Goals:

  1. Real-World Exposure  - Students gain insights into the practical applications of STEM concepts, helping them connect what they learn in the classroom to real-world careers and innovations.

  2. Inspiration and Motivation - Hearing the stories and experiences of STEM professionals can ignite students' passion for these fields, inspiring them to set ambitious goals and pursue their interests confidently.

  3. Awareness of Career Pathways - Meeting professionals helps students learn about diverse STEM careers, required skills, and potential opportunities, broadening their understanding of available pathways.

  4. Role Models and Mentorship - Students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, can see relatable role models who have navigated STEM careers, fostering a sense of belonging and confidence.

  5. Informed Decision-Making - Students are better equipped to make educational and career choices based on firsthand knowledge of what STEM careers entail and the steps to achieve them.

  6. Building Connections - These meetings can spark mentorship opportunities, internships, or other collaborations that provide long-term benefits and practical experiences for students. Ultimately, these interactions empower students to dream big, aim high, and confidently embark on STEM pathways that align with their passions and strengths
